About the Role

As a Collections Consultant, your main role is to help the bank recover debt and assets, reduce financial loss, and ensure customer accounts are properly managed and followed up on. You’ll work closely with both clients and internal teams, using your problem-solving and people skills to manage arrears and improve cash flow.

You’ll also be responsible for tracking accounts, managing relationships, and following legal and internal procedures to ensure smooth collections processes.

Key Responsibilities

Here’s what you’ll be doing in this role:

Contacting clients and third parties to arrange repayments and follow through on collections
Monitoring and managing account performance and risks
Reducing impairments and losses by applying effective collection strategies
Handling and responding to client queries in a professional and timely manner
Maintaining accurate account records and updating client profiles
Sending notifications for overdue, dormant, or excess accounts
Sharing updates and action plans with stakeholders monthly
Escalating complex or high-risk cases like debt review, business rescue, deceased estates, and liquidations
Ensuring all work is compliant with Nedbank’s policies and legal standards
Working closely with your team to share knowledge and improve processes

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (Essential)
Credit Management Certificate (Preferred)

Experience

Minimum 2 years’ experience in credit collections or a similar environment

Knowledge and Skills You Should Have

Solid understanding of banking terms and processes
Knowledge of credit control and debt collection laws
Experience with data analysis and account reviews
Strong negotiation and communication skills
Ability to handle pressure and make clear decisions
Familiarity with regulatory policies and risk controls
Computer skills and the ability to work on Nedbank systems
