Job Purpose

The Assistant Store Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Store Manager and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. You’ll be responsible for maintaining company standards, assisting in staff management, and ensuring that all targets and procedures are met.

When the Store Manager is not available, you will take charge and keep the store running successfully. This means being proactive, organized, and focused on results.


Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Store Manager, your duties will include:

  • Assisting the Store Manager with all operational and managerial tasks.
  • Relieving the Store Manager when they are absent and ensuring continuity.
  • Handling banking of money and ensuring all cash-related procedures are followed.
  • Maintaining company standards in housekeeping, merchandising, shrinkage control, discipline, and security.
  • Making sure all company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Assisting in the management and supervision of staff to ensure productivity.
  • Overseeing the cash office and ensuring front-end controls are in place.
  • Introducing sales initiatives to drive revenue and reach store targets.
  • Providing excellent customer service and ensuring customer needs are met.
  • Reducing stock loss and improving store efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for this role, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Matric / Grade 12 (Mathematics is an advantage) or NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Previous experience in managing people.
  • Previous experience in managing a department.
  • Clothing retail experience would be a strong advantage.
  • Strong communication and administrative skills.
  • Ability to make decisions confidently and effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to maintain productivity and motivate a team.
  • Leadership qualities with enthusiasm and energy.
  • A high level of integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior.
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
