Are you looking for stable, hands-on work with a trusted company? Premier, one of South Africa’s leading food production brands, is offering a great opportunity for someone hardworking and ready to grow. They’re hiring for the role of General Worker Scaler at their Production site. If you have Matric and some experience in the milling industry, this could be your next big step.

No fancy degree is required—just determination, a good work ethic, and the ability to work well under pressure. Keep reading to see if this job is right for you.

What Is a General Worker Scaler?

In simple words, a General Worker Scaler is someone who helps prepare and weigh the ingredients that go into making food products. You’ll work in the Promix Department, where the mixing and measuring happen before production. Your job is to make sure every ingredient is measured exactly right and handled safely.

This is a hands-on role where your focus and attention to detail are key. You’ll be part of a team that helps keep the factory running smoothly.

What Will You Be Doing?

Here’s what your daily tasks might look like:

  • Follow all safety rules – No shortcuts! You’ll need to stick to safety guidelines and company procedures.
  • Find and collect ingredients based on what’s listed in the recipe.
  • Lift and move heavy loads (up to 25kg), so a good level of fitness is needed.
  • Weigh out different ingredients or chemicals accurately to match recipe needs.
  • Label, package, and organize materials into batches ready for the next stage of production.
  • Keep clear, neat records of everything you weigh and move—accuracy matters!
  • Check that your scale is working properly to make sure your measurements are spot-on.
  • Report when materials run low so the team can refill stock.
  • Keep your workspace clean and well-organized at all times.
  • Help move materials around the site as needed.
  • Work with both manual and machine tools in a loud and hot environment.

What You Need to Apply

This is a great opportunity for someone with a Grade 12/Matric certificate and at least 1 year of experience as a packing operator. It’s even better if you’ve spent 2 to 3 years working in the milling or food production industry.

Here’s what else they’re looking for:

  • Physically fit and strong (you’ll be on your feet for long hours)
  • Able to stay focused and keep working even under pressure
  • Comfortable working shifts, overtime, and after hours
  • Someone who can work with minimal supervision
  • Good at keeping records and paying attention to details
  • A strong team player who communicates clearly and takes accountability for their work

Why This Job Matters

This is not just a factory job—it’s a vital role in the food production process. What you do helps make sure that South Africans have access to safe, high-quality food. You’ll also:

  • Gain solid experience working in a professional production environment
  • Learn valuable skills that can help you grow within the company
  • Get paid a market-related salary while doing important, respected work
  • Be part of a well-known company that values hard work and dedication

What You’ll Be Working With

  • Hot and noisy milling environment
  • Heavy machinery – both mechanical and electrical
  • Shifts and overtime, including work outside of regular hours

So if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and putting in honest effort, this role could be the right fit.
