What You’ll Be Doing As A Teacher’s Assistant

As a Teacher’s Assistant, your job is to support both the teacher and the children. This means helping out during lessons, making sure the kids are safe and clean, and setting up fun, creative activities. Here’s a closer look at your responsibilities:

  • Work Monday to Friday from 07h30 to 16h00, with an occasional late shift until 17h30.
  • Attend weekly teacher assistant meetings and take part in classroom duties.
  • Help with daily routines like changing nappies, toilet runs, and keeping kids clean.
  • Set up for activities by preparing materials, putting on aprons, writing names, and encouraging kids to wash hands.
  • Keep the classroom tidy – fold clothes in the play area, clean up lockers, and arrange shelves.
  • Set up and pack away snack mats, puzzles, books, and outdoor playground equipment.
  • Help children feel safe, cared for, and motivated to explore and learn.

It’s a hands-on role, perfect for someone who is active, kind, and excited about making a difference in young children’s lives.

What You Need To Apply

You don’t need a degree, but there are a few key things they’re looking for:

  • Matric certificate (you must have completed Grade 12).
  • A genuine love for working with children and a caring attitude.
  • Great time management – being on time and keeping things organized is a must.
  • The legal right to work in South Africa.
  • Ability to follow feedback and adjust to the needs of the class.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset.
  • A high level of personal responsibility and attention to children’s well-being.

Experience in childcare or early education is helpful, but not required – this could be your first step into a rewarding career in teaching.
