What You Will Do as a Pump Attendant

The Pump Attendant is responsible for ensuring that dewatering pumps operate efficiently at all times. The key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring dewatering pumps to ensure continuous operation
• Conducting routine inspections of pipes, hoses, and valves for wear, leaks, or damage
• Performing basic mechanical checks and reporting faults to maintenance personnel
• Reporting stoppages, leaks, or safety risks immediately
• Assisting with maintenance tasks such as clearing blockages and debris
• Monitoring lubricant levels and refilling or replacing as needed
• Supporting pump installations
• Maintaining good housekeeping around pump areas to prevent hazards

This role requires attention to detail, technical understanding, and proactive reporting of problems to ensure equipment works smoothly and safely.

Who Should Apply

To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Qualification: Grade 12
• Experience: 3 years’ experience in pump operation or related work is advantageous
• Technical skills:
  • Trained in pump operations
  • Able to operate, monitor, and install pumping equipment and related systems
  • Inspect equipment for malfunctions, perform minor repairs, and lubricate components
  • Install pumps, pipes, and fittings accurately
  • Report defects clearly to supervisors
  • Maintain cleanliness in and around the pump area
