Are you looking for a stable, hands-on job in one of the world’s leading energy companies? BP (British Petroleum) is hiring Storage and Handling Operators to join their Production & Operations team. This is your chance to work with a company that has been powering the world for over a century. If you’ve got a passion for operations, safety, and making sure things run smoothly – this might be your perfect fit.

Whether you’re already working in the oil and gas industry or looking for the next step in your career, BP offers a supportive and growth-focused environment where you’ll be respected, trained, and challenged to reach your full potential.

What You’ll Be Doing on the Job

As a Storage and Handling Operator at BP, you’ll be part of a team that handles and monitors fuel storage and movement. You’ll play a critical role in making sure the product is stored and delivered safely and efficiently. Here’s a look at your daily tasks:

  • Dipping and Sampling: Check fuel levels in tanks before and after delivery. Take product samples and handle valves during operations.
  • Valve Control: Open and close valves to control the flow of fuel. Make sure everything is sealed and secure to avoid spills or contamination.
  • Monitor Deliveries: Watch over the filling or rundown of fuel slugs and make sure tanks are receiving or delivering correctly.
  • Documentation: Fill in important documents like dip sheets, pipeline registers, and quality control logs.
  • Report Losses & Gains: Help calculate how much fuel was received or lost, and keep the records updated.
  • Site Safety: Walk around the site daily, check for any issues, and follow all safety procedures.
  • Control Room Monitoring: Keep an eye on tank levels, alarms, and fuel quality from the control room.
  • Sample Testing: Collect water samples each month and paraffin samples with every tanker for testing.
  • Communication: Be the key point of contact when anything unusual happens during operations.

What BP is Looking For

To succeed in this role, you need to be careful, alert, and good at working with your hands. You should also enjoy working both indoors and outdoors, and be ready to work shifts – including weekends and public holidays.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
  • 2 to 3 years of proven experience in operations, ideally in the oil and gas industry
  • Comfortable with physical work and monitoring control systems
  • Strong attention to detail and safety
  • Able to follow rules and procedures strictly
  • Great communication and teamwork skills

Why You Should Work at BP

BP isn’t just another company. It’s a global leader in energy with a clear vision — to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner. When you join BP, you join a diverse and supportive community that values respect, fairness, and career growth.

Here’s what’s in it for you:

  • Hybrid Work Model: Work from both the office and home with flexible arrangements
  • Modern Workplace: Access to collaboration spaces and high-tech work tools
  • Career Development: Learn and grow with world-class training and mentorship
  • Inclusive Culture: Be part of a team that supports diversity and inclusion
  • Work-Life Balance: BP understands that life doesn’t stop outside of work, so they offer benefits that support your lifestyle

No Travel? No Problem!

This role is based locally and does not require any travel — which means more time with family and less time on the road. Also, there’s no relocation assistance needed and you’ll have a steady base to work from.

Skills You’ll Use and Develop

At BP, you’ll strengthen a variety of skills that are useful across the entire logistics and energy industry:

  • Inventory management
  • Risk and safety procedures
  • Analytical thinking
  • Communication and teamwork
  • Digital tools and reporting
  • Resilience and agility in operations
  • Understanding of supply chain and product quality control

Ready to Join BP?

This is a rare chance to join a top global brand with deep roots in energy. If you’re serious about operations and want a job that’s both meaningful and secure, now is the time to apply. Be one of the first to get your foot in the door — positions like this don’t stay open for long.
