Eastplats Mining Opens 2025/2026 Learnerships — A Rare Chance to Start Your Career Underground

Eastplats Mine invites ambitious and hardworking young South Africans to apply for its Mining Learnership Programme for 2025/2026. This exciting opportunity is designed for unemployed youth who want to build a future in the mining industry. The closing date for applications is 27 October 2025, so make sure your application reaches them on time.

This programme forms part of Eastplats’ strong commitment to developing South Africa’s next generation of mining professionals while supporting its Employment Equity Policy. If you’ve always dreamed of a career in mining and are ready to learn, work hard, and grow, this could be your big break.

About the Eastplats Mining Learnership Programme

The Eastplats Mining Learnership offers participants both classroom-based training and hands-on experience in underground mining operations. Learners will get the rare chance to work in a professional, challenging, and safety-focused environment — one that provides the foundation for a lifelong career in mining.

This is not a typical training course. It’s an opportunity to learn how mines operate, understand safety standards, and gain the confidence to perform mining duties effectively. You’ll work alongside experienced miners and supervisors who will mentor and guide you every step of the way.

Because this learnership focuses on underground mining, applicants must be willing to work below the surface and should be physically fit for the role. Before starting, all participants will be required to complete a medical fitness examination to ensure they meet the necessary health and safety requirements.

Eastplats places great importance on safety, teamwork, and professional growth. The programme aims to prepare learners not just for jobs, but for long-term careers in South Africa’s dynamic and ever-changing mining sector.

Who Can Apply for the Eastplats Learnership

To qualify for the Eastplats Mining Learnership Programme 2025/2026, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Completed Grade 9 with Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and Science, or have Communications and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 1.
  • Be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
  • Hold a valid certificate of fitness (red ticket) or be willing to undergo the company’s medical fitness examination.

While not mandatory, candidates with the following qualifications or experience will have an advantage:

  • A Level 2 National Certificate in Mining Operations.
  • Previous team leader experience in a mining or related environment.

If you meet these requirements, you already have a strong foundation to join one of South Africa’s respected mining companies and begin your journey toward a rewarding and stable career.

What Learners Will Do During the Programme

During the learnership, participants will gain valuable practical and theoretical training that prepares them for real mining work. As part of the programme, learners will be expected to:

  • Submit a comprehensive CV, along with certified copies of their ID and academic results.
  • Complete all required medical fitness tests.
  • Fully commit to the underground training and practical learning activities.

This training will expose learners to the full mining environment — from understanding underground safety procedures to learning how mining equipment is used, maintained, and operated. You’ll also develop key teamwork and problem-solving skills that are essential in the mining world.

By the end of the programme, participants will have gained enough experience to confidently pursue further opportunities within the mining industry, whether as operators, technicians, or in supervisory roles.
