Main Duties: More Than Just Fighting Fires

You won’t just be holding hoses and putting out flames. Here are some things you’ll be doing:

• Responding to fires, accidents, and other emergencies—sometimes as part of a rescue team.
• Taking part in incidents involving dangerous substances and learning to stay safe under pressure.
• Helping to release or save those trapped in tricky situations.
• Giving basic medical help to injured people until professionals arrive.
• Working with fire equipment—including learning to use breathing apparatus and other lifesaving tools.
• Checking and maintaining trucks and gear, making sure everything is in top condition and ready for any call.
• Keeping records of everything that happens during your shift, using computers and logs.
• Training with other staff, joining drills, and staying physically fit so you’re always ready.
• Advising colleagues about fire safety and what to do to prevent disasters before they even start.
• Helping keep workplaces and communities safe by following strong health and safety rules.

Getting Ready for the Unexpected

Fidelity Fire Solutions believes in being prepared. As a Junior Fire Fighter, you’ll be trained so you know exactly what to do when disaster strikes. You’ll practice different scenarios—like fake fire drills or rescue missions—with experienced team members.

Not only will you put on protective gear and train hard physically, but you’ll also need to learn how fires behave, how to control them, and how to keep people out of harm’s way.

What You Need Before You Apply

If you want to throw your hat in the ring, make sure you meet these requirements:

• You need to have passed Grade 12 (matric).
• You must have an NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certificate (IFSAC accreditation is a must).
• At least two years of real firefighting experience and proof that you’ve been trained.
• A driving licence with no marks or penalties.
• Being able to drive well is an advantage—emergency vehicles call for sharp skills.
• Good health and fitness; this job is physically demanding.
• Clear, up-to-date criminal record.
• Know your way around fire safety rules and firefighting systems.
• Hands-on knowledge about hazardous materials (Hazmat).
• Basic medical qualifications, including First Aid (levels 1, 2, and 3), EMT, or Ambulance Attendant.
• Solid communication and admin skills—good with people, including reporting and writing up what happens on shifts.
