About the General Worker Position

The main purpose of this role is to support production operations by assisting with the safe handling, packing, stacking, and storage of raw materials and finished products. General Workers play an important role in ensuring that production runs smoothly while maintaining high standards of quality and workplace safety.

You will work alongside machine operators and production teams, helping to move materials, prepare products for dispatch, and keep the work area clean and organised. You will also be expected to follow all Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) regulations and company safety procedures at all times.

Main Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of duties that support the production process. These responsibilities include:

• Assist machine operators by manually loading mandrels and feeding materials into production machines safely.
• Learn how to operate production machinery when required as part of your skills development.
• Wrap, stack, pack, and strap raw materials and finished products according to company quality standards.
• Correctly label finished products before they are dispatched.
• Ensure there is enough packaging material, including pallets, dunnage, and strapping, to support daily production.
• Monitor product quality during production and immediately report defects or equipment problems to supervisors.
• Assist with loading, unloading, sorting, moving, and transporting materials using approved manual handling methods or equipment.
• Participate in stock counts and inventory checks when required.
• Attend production training sessions and continue developing your workplace skills.
• Maintain clean, organised, and safe work areas at all times.
• Operate forklifts or other approved material-handling equipment only if properly trained, licensed, and authorised.
• Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and procedures.
• Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever performing your duties.
• Follow all production and safety rules, including company procedures for handling finished products.
• Work as part of a team to achieve production targets while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Minimum Requirements

Experience Required

Although previous experience is not essential, the following experience will be an advantage:

• Experience working with production machinery.
• Experience in steel manufacturing.
• Forklift operating experience.
• Overhead crane experience.
• A valid forklift licence will be an added advantage where applicable.
