About the Role
As a Bartender at Sun International, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional beverage services to guests, ensuring that both banqueting and restaurant operations meet the highest standards. You’ll make drinks, handle orders, maintain a clean and organized bar, and provide guests with a memorable experience.
Main Responsibilities
Prepared Work Area:
- Prepare the bar before service, including mise-en-place and other necessary checks.
- Stock the bar with drinks and supplies.
- Make sure all equipment and bar displays are clean and functioning.
Service Execution:
- Keep up to date with drinks trends and food pairings.
- Take guest orders accurately and place them in the system on time.
- Mix drinks according to guest preferences and outlet standards.
- Clear glasses after use and provide billing to guests.
- Conduct end-of-shift cash-ups and complete beverage stock sheets.
Bar Standards:
- Follow Food & Beverage standard operating procedures at all times.
- Comply with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in stock takes and count bar smalls daily.
- Report any issues or discrepancies to management.
Customer Engagement:
- Provide a warm welcome to all guests with a friendly smile.
- Interact professionally with guests, offering solutions and recommendations.
- Educate guests on facilities, products, promotions, and reward programs.
- Understand guest preferences to enhance their experience.
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge & Planning:
- Practical understanding of work procedures and processes.
- Plan short-term activities efficiently, ensuring tasks are completed on time.
- Coordinate with colleagues to provide exceptional guest experiences.
Problem Solving:
- Take initiative in addressing guest needs and inquiries.
- Make decisions independently within company procedures.
- Analyze facts and options before taking action.
Accountability:
- Take ownership of special requests and requirements.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Escalate issues beyond your authority to the manager.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalent national qualification.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a bartender.
Other Requirements:
- Willing to work in designated smoking areas if needed.
- Must be able to handle fast-paced service and multi-task efficiently.
- Preference given to candidates from certain licensed areas: Mbizana, Flagstaff, Maluti, Mount Fletcher, Lusikisiki, Matatiele, Mount Ayliff.
