City of Ekurhuleni Invites Applications for General Worker Posts – Closing 26 August 2025
The City of Ekurhuleni is offering an exciting opportunity for unemployed residents to join their team as General Workers. These positions run for six consecutive months and include a monthly stipend of R3,621.00. About the Programme
The General Worker role is part of the City of Ekurhuleni’s job creation initiative. This programme aims to give unemployed residents a chance to earn an income while gaining hands-on work experience in municipal services. Over the six months, participants will work alongside experienced municipal staff, learn practical skills, and contribute to improving local communities.
Who Can Apply
To be considered, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Have at least Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification
- Be a South African citizen
- Be a resident of Ekurhuleni (you must provide your Ward Number)
- Be unemployed
- Not currently part of any other City of Ekurhuleni job creation programme
- Be willing to learn and follow instructions from supervisors
Key Responsibilities
As a General Worker, you will assist in a variety of tasks, including:
- Cleaning public spaces and municipal areas
- Digging, planting, sweeping, grass cutting, and refuse collection
- Helping with general site upkeep and beautification projects
- Assisting with maintenance of municipal infrastructure and assets
- Using basic hand tools and small equipment under supervision
- Loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment
- Following safety procedures to protect yourself and others at work
- Reporting hazards, faults, or unsafe conditions to your supervisor
- Supporting municipal teams during public events, clean-up campaigns, or emergencies
- Working as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently
- Carrying out any general work assigned by your supervisor

Important Notes for Applicants
- If you are already taking part in another City of Ekurhuleni job creation project, you are not eligible until you have completed a six-month cooling-off period.
