Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for alert and responsible Security Guards to protect their stores and people at the Lenz Quarter location. What’s the Job About?

As a Security Guard at Dis-Chem, your main goal will be to protect the store’s assets, staff, and customers. You will watch out for anything suspicious, stop theft or damage, and handle emergencies calmly and professionally. Your presence should help prevent crimes before they happen.

You will patrol the store and surrounding areas regularly, check who comes in and out, and ensure only authorized people enter. If anything unusual or illegal happens, you quickly report it and act following Dis-Chem’s rules and security standards.

What Will You Be Doing Every Day?

• Keep an eye out for suspicious people or actions all the time.
• Patrol the premises to make sure everything is safe and secure.
• Monitor entrances and exits; check vehicles and people to control access.
• Search staff, suppliers, and merchandisers as needed.
• Fill in logs and incident books with detailed notes about your day.
• Make sure trash is removed safely and according to Dis-Chem standards.
• Be visible to deter theft, damage, or violence.
• Welcome customers and staff with a helpful and polite attitude.
• Secure the building by locking doors and windows at closing time.
• Make sure water taps and other equipment are turned off when necessary.
• Perform regular searches on people and vehicles.
• Report incidents to management quickly and submit clear written reports.
• Work with police and emergency teams when needed.
• Stay alert during crises, help keep order during evacuations, and follow safety procedures.
• Use security equipment like alarms and cameras to protect the premises.
• Help after-hours by patrolling and watching video monitors.
• Assist emergency responders when they arrive.
• Give security advice to staff and customers to keep everyone safe.
• Act fast and correctly in emergencies, like armed attacks.
• Run errands and answer communications related to security duties.

What Do You Need to Qualify?

• Grade 12 certificate (Matric or Senior Certificate).
• PSIRA Grade C accreditation (you must be registered with PSIRA).
• At least 3 years’ experience working in retail security, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
• Preferably 1 year or more experience in a similar security role.

Skills and What Matters Most

• Be alert, calm, and quick to respond in any situation.
• Good verbal and written communication in English (Dis-Chem’s official language).
• Know how to handle emergencies, fires, and health and safety rules.
• Ability to stay professional and courteous at all times.
• If you speak a third language, that’s a bonus.
• Must be a South African citizen with a clear criminal and credit record.
• Driver’s license, own transport, and a valid PDP if the job requires driving.
